Love coffee and chocolate? The mocha cake is perfect! I always add coffee to my chocolate-flavoured cakes. It highlights the flavour of the chocolate.
I have made this cake as a bundt cake with alternating flavours of chocolate and coffee. I love the visual impact it makes but you can always mix all the batters up.
I suggest you then layer the cake with either mocha buttercream or chocolate ganache. Next time I plan to do this and then top it up with coffee beans. I love to munch on roasted beans.
The other cakes we love are Pound Cake, which is a perfect base for frosting cakes. Then my favourite cakes are Honey Cake for the Jewish New Year, and Layered Angel Cake the British Version, or Marble Cake. Chocolate cakes that my kids love are Eggless chocolate cake, and Hershey’s “Perfectly Chocolate” Chocolate Cake, this Cauldron cake is much loved for birthdays.

I first baked this Mocha cake for my younger one’s birthday, I wanted to order a cake for her.
But hubby and she were adamant that I should make the cake not order it. I am so glad because this is one awesome cake. This one fail-proof cake from Joy the Baker.
I baked this cake with my BM friends for the mega Marathon theme “Fire Up Your Oven”. Today I am updating this post for better pictures and updated SEO.
Make this Mocha Coffee Cake Recipe with Coffee Glaze
These are the ingredients you will need. For quantities please check the recipe card.
For the Glaze:
You will need
Why add coffee to chocolate cake?
A little coffee highlights the chocolatey flavour in cake and cupcakes. Adding more coffee will create a mocha flavour.
What coffee is good for this cake?
Any coffee is fine. A strong filter fresh brewed, instant coffee in water is also great. You can use coffee at room temperature coffee is also great. If you are using hot coffee remember to add it last this will prevent the eggs from cooking.
What cocoa is good for this cake?
Use unsweetened processed cocoa powder. I use Cadbury’s or Hershey’s the once I get easily. Then I love the dark Malaysian one but it is difficult to source.
A simple mocha cake that is delicious as a bundt cake. The coffee flavours are highlighted by the coffee glaze. A versatile cake that you can bake in round tins and then dress the cake up!
