Mocktails and me
Summer is the time when we love to keep guzzling some liquid refreshments! The kitchen is not a place to cook but to get cooked. You do not feel hungry when it is hot, so you depend on many mocktails to stay hydrated.
Traditional beverages like Kokum Sherbet, Futi Kadi Recipe buttermilk, and panha are regular in my place, but occasionally, you need something different.
What are mocktails?
Mocktails are non-alcoholic drinks. Generally, fruit juices are blended with syrups, cream, spices, fruits, and herbs as the main ingredients. A mocktail is meant for people who do not consume alcohol safely, so serve kids and toddlers with a refreshing mocktail.
Is a mocktail healthy?
If you compare a mocktail to plain old water, then I will say water is healthier. But compared to a cocktail, a mocktail is healthier. Definitely, consuming alcohol on a regular basis is not good for you.
Again, thanks to the sugars, syrups, etc., I will occasionally prefer a mocktail. However, you have to make the choice; after all, it's your health.
Ingredients to make Orange Mist
- Orange Juice: When oranges are in season, use fresh oranges and juice them. Otherwise, readymade juice is fine.
- Mango Juice: When oranges are in season, I will never get fresh mangoes, so I have used ready-to-use juice from a tetra pack.
- Sparkling water: Soda I have used unsweetened sparkling water as the mango juice I found was too sweet. If you are making it for kids, use sweetened soda like Sprite.
- Lemon Juice: Lemon juice balances the sweet taste. You can use as much or as little as you want here.
- Orange Slices: Use sliced oranges; the taste your drink gets is fantastic.
- Mint Leaves: Use mint leaves as you like. Today, I used leaves, but I prefer to add mint spring to my drink.
- Ice Cubes: You want a chilled drink, so use ice. The ice also melts, reducing the sweetness of the drink.

Substitutes and Variations
- I have already mentioned that you can substitute the fresh oranges with boxed juice.
- You can use fresh mangoes to make mango juice. The juice is very thick, and you need to finish it quickly, as it spoils quickly.
- Replace mango juice with pineapple juice.
- In place of orange slices, use lemon slices. You can always cut the fruit fine and set it as ice. Use these cubes in your drinks.
How to make Orange Mist Mocktail
- In a tall pitcher, add the Orange juice and Mango juice.
- Add the sparkling water and mix well. Taste it.
- Add the lemon juice and orange slices a few mint leaves. Mix well and adjust the taste.
- Refrigerate it for at least 2 hours.
- Before serving add a spring of mint to a glass, add ice and pour the mixture from the pitcher.
- Serve immediately.
