Today is Monday and for most people, it is chasing away of the Monday Morning Blues but for me, at Foodie Monday BlogHop it was an agonizing week!
Why well the theme for us this week Seema of Mildly Indian has suggested #179foodmagbest. Seema has some amazing recipes on her blog and though I am yet to try some more the recent one I tried was Icecream Loaf. It is amazing. Do try it girls.
Though I voted for it and dream of taking some mind-blowing pictures the ground reality is I suck. Anyway, here I am giving it my best shot with this delicious Barley Bhelpuri Chaat.
Bhelpuri, Bhel, Bhel Poori is a delicious street food much appreciated by old and young. Bhel is made using puffed rice, sev, onions, tomatoes and tangy tamarind and green chutney. Lip-smackingly delicious!
But this bhel is made out of barley, a delicious and yummy snack that is quite addictive.
Barley is a new entrant in my kitchen. The only time I had heard about barley as a kid was when someone was sick. Even now my friends believe that barley is consumed for some infections that too only the water.
So when I was in Vasco we went to a restaurant called Chi:noa,( do try it their menu is great) and as I went through the menu I saw this barley bhel.
I had to have it… will you not? And fell in love with the grain.
Barley has a delicious taste and lovely and nutty flflavour andook and taste quite a bit like rice albeit a bit too big.
As always I did not want to throw out the water in which I had boiled the barley and hence I made this delicious Barley lemon water. With the boiled barley I made this delicious bhel. That I copied from here.
For the imli chutney I, have used the imli phickoo you can make regular imli chutney, dates chutney too.
Barley Bhelpuri

Notes:
Since I had added zest to my boiling barley my bhel had a lemony zest flavour not appreciated much.
I have tried making Barley Utthapams in my pet theme Simple and Healthy Vegetarian Diet In Old Age.
Sharing is caring!

You know, I have also thought of barley as that thing my Mom would force me to have when I was ill with some irritating sickness which kept me in bed for days together during summer holidays, when all I wanted to do was read and play. Its amazing how you have created a recipe which sounds chatpata and delicious, and looks very attractive too!
