Dal Palak is a simple dal made from skinless moong dal and fresh spinach leaves a Simple and Healthy Vegetarian Diet in Old Age as well as for the young.
This is a tasty and healthy dal as nutrients of palak get added to the dal. Simple and easy to cook it takes about 25 minutes from start to finish and serve with steamed rice, Lemony Mushroom Pulao even as a side for plain rotis this is a filling meal ideal for a busy college student as well as the bachelors who are longing for home cooked food.

Dal Palak
Like I have said Lentils are an inseparable part of an Indian Meal. The lentils are called dals and we use quite a few of them in our everyday meals. Not only they take care of nutrition they also give the variety we all crave for.
Season and local produce play a great part in the homemaker's decision of how to cook food. This is Dal Palak made in the North Indian Style I have copied it from MasterChef Sanjeev Kapoor's site.
The main ingredients are palak/Spinach, moong dal/yellow gram dal.

Dal Palak
Dal Palak| Skinless Green Gram with Spinach
- Serves: 4 people
- Preparation Time: 10 minutes
- Cook time: 20-25 minutes
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup yellow moong dal/skinless split green gram
- 10 palak/spinach finely chopped
- ½ teaspoon haldi/turmeric powder
- Hing/asafoetida a pinch
- 2 teaspoon ghee
- ½ teaspoon jeera/cumin seeds
- 3 garlic cloves
- ½ inch ginger
- 1 green chilli
- 1 teaspoon amchur/mango powder
- ¼ teaspoon rock salt
- Salt to taste
Method:
- Rinse the moong dal and transfer in a deep pan.
- Add 2 ½ cups water and cook until soft.
- Meanwhile mince the ginger, garlic and chillies fine.
- Heat ghee(or oil) in a pan.
- Add jeera, garlic, ginger, green chillies and sauté for one minute.
- Add the haldi powder and hing.
- Add to the dal and mix well.
- Add spinach, amchur and salt mix well.
- Add water to adjust the consistency of the dal.
- Serve hot.
Notes:
- You can also cook the dal in a pressure cooker for 2 whistles.

Dal Palak| Yellow Dal with Spinach
Ingredients
- ¼ cup yellow moong dal/skinless split green gram
- 10 Palak/spinach finely chopped
- ½ teaspoon haldi/turmeric powder
- Hing/Asafoetida a pinch
- 2 teaspoon Ghee
- ½ teaspoon Jeera/cumin seeds
- 3 cloves garlic
- ½ inch Ginger
- 1 green chilli
- 1 teaspoon amchur/mango powder
- ¼ teaspoon rock salt
- Salt to Taste
Instructions
