Spicy Hot Chocolate with Cinnamon Recipe and me:
My children were the inspiration for this recipe because they adore chocolate in any form.
Many aches, injuries, scrapes and upsets have been relieved by hot chocolate.
Now that they are not at home, I'm missing them and this delectable beverage. Generally, I make Haldi Doodh, Kashai Recipe. However today I am recreating Mexican hot chocolate using local Chilli to suit my tastes.

Let's make Spicy Hot Chocolate with Cinnamon:
These are the ingredients you will need. For quantities please check the recipe card.
Ingredients:
- Milk
- Chocolate chips/ Cocoa powder
- Sugar
- Coffee powder
- Cinnamon stick
- red chilli/chilli powder
Method:
- Combine the milk, coffee powder, and red chilli in a medium saucepan. To dissolve the coffee, vigorously whisk it in.
- Bring the mixture to a boil with the cinnamon stick on a low flame.
- Switch off the flame. Cover and steep for 10 minutes during the time of the flame.
- If you're using a chocolate block, chop it up in the meantime.
- In a bowl, place the chopped chocolate. Using a strainer, pour the milk over the chocolate and whisk until it melts. Check and add sugar.
- Return the strained mixture to the pan with the chocolate and heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate has completely melted.
- Serve right away.
Substitutes:
- Instead of dark chocolate,use bittersweet chocolate, cocoa powder.
- Instead of instant coffee, use expresso coffee.
- In place of the cinnamon stick, use cinnamon powder.
- If you don't like cinnamon, leave it out entirely.
- Sugar can be replaced with honey or maple syrup.
- Use plant-based milk like almond milk, soy-milk if you want a vegan bevarage.
- Avoid the chilli if making for kids.
Variations:
- Spices- cardamom nutmeg ,ginger, rose petals bring the rich aroma and complement the chocolate.
- Coffee: use blends of coffee, coffee beans for chocolate and coffee are match made in heaven.
- Aromatics: another delicious addition to chocolate vanilla extract or beans make chocolate so very aromatic. How you tried using mint, oranges flavours? Try them!
- Marshmallows: use some the kids love them.
- Vegan hot chocolate: use plantbased milk.

How to serve:
- Add to mugs top with marshmallows, if using.
- Ganesh with garnish with cinnamon powder or cinnamon stick.
How to store:
- Hot chocolate is a drink that can be consumed right away. I've never attempted to store it.

- To prevent the milk from curdling, use a clean vessel.
- To make a creamy hot chocolate, use full cream milk.
- Custard powder or corn flour can also be used to thicken the milk.
- If you want to use cocoa instead of chocolate, mix it with hot water before adding it to the milk.
- To avoid very sweet hot chocolate add sugar towards the end. Especially if you plan to use marshmallows.

This hot chocolate with a hint of red chilli in it is something different. I am yet to try it in a chocolate drink.Remember similarly, had it recently in a cadbury chocolate with chilli in it.
