Jeera Rice Recipe
Make some Quick, delicious and simple fluffy cumin seed flavoured rice every time. This flavourful Cumin Rice makes dinner and packed lunches a breeze.

Ingredients

rice
1
onion
thinly sliced

teaspoon
cumin seeds
1

cinnamon stick

Black Peppercorns

star anise
1
bay leaf

tablespoon
Ghee
or clarified butter
cashew nuts
a handful
salt
to taste
water
Instructions
For Stove top method:
Wash and drain the rice. Set aside.
Add the ghee to the thick bottomed vessel. Add the cashew nuts and fry till the cashew nuts are golden brown. Drain and set aside.
Add the bay leaf and the jeera, cinnamon, peppercorns, cardamom and cloves.
Once you get the wonderful aroma of the spices add onions and fry till translucent.
Add the rice and fry for a few minutes.
Add the 2 cups water, salt and stir. Check the seasoning and cook till the rice is done.
Pressure Cooker method:
You can make the jeera rice directly in the cooker. Follow the steps exactly but add 1.5 cups of water.
Cook for 1 whistle and wait for the pressure to drop.
How to serve:
Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with cashew nuts. Cool a bit then add coriander leaves.

Notes
Substitutes:
In place of rice use quinoa, millets.
Use oil in place of clarified butter for a vegan Jeera Rice.
Variations:
Kid friendly-This rice is definitely bland and great for kids. But if you plan to serve your toddler this I will make it softer and a little sticky.
For a party use a lot of nuts like almonds, pistachios, raisins that are fried in clarified butter.
