Sugar Drop Cookies

One bowl, whisk or fork and 2 teaspoons are all you need to drop these goodies on the baking tray.

  • 1/4 Cup Butter Softened
  • 1/2 +1/4 Cups Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 Cup Sour Cream
  • 1/4 Tablespoon Vanilla Essence
  • 1 +1/2 Cups Maida/APF
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Baking Soda

For decoration

  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • A pinch of colour


  • Beat the butter, sugar egg, sour cream and vanilla essence till fluffy. About 5 minutes.
  • Sieve in the baking powder, baking soda and maida and mix well. The mixture comes together immediately.
  • Transfer the dough to the refrigerator for 60 minutes.
  • About 15 minutes before baking preheat the oven at 190C. Mix the colour and sugar.
  • Drop the spoonful of dough on the greased baking tray. Sprinkle with the coloured sugar and press lightly on the dough.
  • Bake for 10 minutes or the till edges at the bottom get brown.
  • Cool on a wire rack and transfer to an air-tight box.
