We at #Blogging Marathon try to bring to you a variety, a variety in our various marathons.
This one is no different, aptly called “#BuffetonTable " this week our quest is to bring you different combos from various countries.
I want to visit Sri Lanka in my Foodie Quest. So grab your eating implements and let’s visit the Sri Lanka …
Sri Lanka was earlier till 1972 known as Ceylon and is an island country in South Asia near south-east India. A diverse and multicultural country, Sri Lanka is home to many religions, ethnic groups, and languages. The majority Sinhalese also share their island country Indian Tamils, Moors, Burghers, Malays, Kaffirs and the aboriginal Vedda.
Being multicultural you rightly expect the cuisine here to be a delicious intermingling of ingredients and flavours of all the residents here. A foodie’s delight of rice, coconut and spices, reflecting the island's history as a spice producer and trading post over several centuries.
You can expect your food dished up in plantain leaf or lotus leaf. You may be served with boiled or steamed rice served with a curry of fish, chicken, beef, mutton or goat, along with other curries made with vegetables, lentils or fruit. Accompaniments may be pickled fruit or vegetables, chutneys and sambals, especially coconut sambol, a paste of ground coconut mixed with chilli peppers, dried Maldive fish and lime juice.
Middle Eastern influences and practices are found in traditional Moor dishes, while Dutch and Portuguese influences are found with the island's Burgher community, preserving their culture through traditional dishes such as Lamprais (rice cooked in stock and baked in a banana leaf), Breudher (Dutch Holiday Biscuit), and Bolo Fiado (Portuguese-style layer cake).
So what do we have here today... the yummiest of #Pumpkin Vegetables, #Lentil Curry with #Lulu Miris and #Seeni Sambol. To make these delicious and fragrant cuisines you will need the #Sri Lankan Curry Powder. I will post the recipe soon.
Meanwhile, do join us BM'ers in the Buffet we have dished up just for you...
