Ever noticed that time flies when you are having fun! Well so it did in Ahmadabad! Hardly we had started to have fun it was time to pack up!!
The day 3 at Ahmadabad began on the ominous note, the democleous sword hanging over our heads Today is our last day together!!
We began a bit slowly on this day the packing had to be done plus there were demos lined up.
Kamalika was giving ademo on preparation of typical south-Indian sambhar powder. The samples of which she had presented to us. The sambhar powder is so very delicious that both my daughters have a complaint that I am making very little sambhar these days!!
Padma prepared dalia powder, Andhra-style sambhar powder and toor dal powder, and also an Andhra specialty Pesehit upma. Valli prepared her Tomato Kurma and Pradnya demonstrated some ways of using fruits and vegetables to make pretty table decorations.Sorry our photographer was cooking and we were rapt attention sans our cameras!
After a heavy breakfast that included Dal Pakwan (yummy and sinfully fried!) and Poha Ragda (this was quite a unique combo for me) apart from pesarhit upma and tomato kurma, we stepped out for some foodie shopping.
We went vegetable shopping, what do you expect from foodies and I was drooling over the fresh produce that as always tantalizing visible where ever we went. I bought fresh red and green jalapenos , fresh green garlic, small brinjals so small that they were impossible to stuff. As I was coming out o saw some beautiful purple strings like beans. Never having seen them I asked Vaishali what they were. She said they are mogri buy them I will tell you what to make from them. I did and are they not delicious.
We then went to a Gujarati snacks shop and loaded ourselves with packet upon packet of fafda, khakra, different varieties of sev, chutnies !
Next on the agenda was lunch, street food vada pav and dabeli. Vaishali did order another delicacy I just cannot remember the mane but it came with delicious chutney and fiery one at that. I drank a little of the chutney stuffed dry bread in my mouth to get rid of the heat but then I was back again reaching out for the chutney!!! It was irresistible!!!
O did I mention there was a hooka shop and they had this amazing collection of hookas. Rajani and I went crazy the shopkeeper gave us permission to click pictures! Needless to say that people were looking at us wondering if we were okay in our heads!!
Now we were glancing at the watches and knew we had to head back if we were to catch our flights. there was packing to do.
And I was in a mess. I kept remembering Vaishali’s warning to get big bags and my husband’s warnings my bags were too small and all wrong for my flight. If it had not been for Vaishali unpacking and packing I would have had to leave behind a pile of things behind!! Thanks a lot Vaishali!!
Now Pradnya had decided that getting us to vote for the last 2 days for the BM contest will not work she moved around with a sheet of paper asking everyone to rate the dishes on various parameters like taste, presentation and innovation.
We had all brought along gifts from home to make up a large goody bag for winner!!
But then it was decided that it might be more fun to have category-wise winners so that everyone gets to take something home as a prize! all the gifts into a large bag and randomly pulled out gifts were gifted out. Poor Baby Choo he hardly picked one interesting thing out and looked up he had to part with it! And his mother complains that he is not willing to part with the prizes!!
The first prize was won by Vaishali for her delicious pani poori shots second by Padma for
Nandini and I won the jointly. Both of us got cookbooks. I got a book on south-Indian sweets, while she got a book on Baking.
And sadly we left for the airport The Chennai group and I. Pradnya had a flight in the night and PJ in early in the morning the next day!!
Once the Chennai flight was called I felt lonely!

It was hard to believe that our sojourn was coming to an end ! I will treasure the day I spent at Ahmadabad, the friends I made and the warmth and graciousness hospitality that Vaishali and her family extended!
It did not feel like most of us were meeting for the first time. They are my long lost friends!
