In a large pot cook the spaghetti in salted water as per instruction on the packet. The pasta should be cooked but firm to the bite.

Over medium heat cook and toast the garlic till golden brown. Remove from heat.
In the pasta add and stir red chilli flakes, black pepper, and salt.
Pour in olive oil and garlic, and sprinkle parsley and half of the Parmesan cheese (if using) and stir until well mixed.
Serve pasta topped with the remaining cheese.
