A Brigadeiro is a soft chocolate made with condensed milk and cocoa. Simple everyday ingredients but tricky to make!

My daughter tagged me on FB with this delicious video of Brazilian Chocolate Brigadeiros I watched it to the end.

She does not like sweets but chocolate is not sweets is it?

In the Brazilian culture brigadeiro, a national icon and has a sentimental value to all Brazilians.  a dessert that all enjoy in times of happiness and sorrow.

In Brazilian homes, the brigadeiro is called “spoon brigadeiro”  as it is generally eaten straight from the pot. The most common form of this dessert is in small balls covered in chocolate sprinkles and in a small cupcake mould.

Where is a brigadeiro served?

Well, you can have a brigadeiro at kid’s birthday parties immediately after the birthday cake,  when friends get together. You can also expect a brigadeiro in case you going through heartache.

According to Wikipedia 

The gourmet brigadeiro has a touch of sophistication. Instead of using grainy substances, one can use pistachio, almonds, hazelnuts, etc. There are over 50 flavors in stores that are called brigadeiro “boutiques“. The mixture can vary, but the good quality ingredients, fresh products and elegant presentation are key to making it a gourmet dessert. They can be served in cups, jars, small pots, tubes, spoons and small boxes that resemble small jewelry boxes. The brigadeiro has grown and achieved the status of a gourmet dish.[5]

With the gourmet brigadeiros,[6] more sophisticated flavors were invented from the original that only needed powdered chocolate. Some other types include:

I have made the simple and everyday commonplace Brazilian Chocolate Brigadeiros! Still, need to get to the tricky part where it just sets. It does not meet the standards that world has set. Cannot make it again so soon as the girls will refuse to eat and it ends up on my waist!

Cook Time 10 Minutes

Brazilian Chocolate Brigadeiros
Instructions
  1. Cook the cocoa powder, butter and condensed milk in a thick kadhai/wok over medium heat stirring constantly.
  2. In about 10 minutes the mixture starts forming a lump.
  3. Remove from heat and chill in a greased plate in the fridge for about an hour.
  4. Make balls with your hands.
  5. Roll in cocoa powder then place in cupcake liners.
  6. Eat immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.
  7. Can be stored in the fridge for a week.
